PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A woman was killed and several other people were injured during a violent weekend in Providence, police said.
A 24-year-old woman was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting on Olney Street at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Maj. David Lapatin said.
The victim, identified Monday as Miya Brophy-Baerman, of Warwick, had been out with friends and was outside talking to one of them when a car drove past and someone fired several shots from inside the vehicle.
Lapatin said it does not appear the victim was the intended target.
Brophy-Baerman was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead. It was the city’s 13th homicide of the year.
No arrests have been announced.
Five people including a juvenile were injured in another shooting outside a vacant shopping center near Alvarez High School around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, police Cmdr. Thomas Verdi said.
At least two people were stabbed in unrelated altercations early Sunday.
