A whale found beached on a narrow spit of land in Fairhaven this morning was euthanized, despite the best efforts of a corps of rescuers.
A fisherman discovered the whale, believed to be a minke whale at about 7:30 A.M., according to ML Baron, a local weather spotter who lives near the spot at Hoppy’s Landing in Fairhaven.
Baron said local police and other first responders called in the Cape Cod – based International Fund for Animal Welfare, which sent in experts, tried to save the whale, but put the whale down shortly after noon.
