Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian says he is “impressed” after he met with corporate executives from Motel 6 about the rash of crime emanating from the location on Jefferson Boulevard.

“We have reached a number of agreements we are going to put down on paper; I will run it by them to make sure it conveys our discussions this morning and then announce it to the [Board of Licenses] tonight,” said Avedisian.

City and corporate officials met at the Warwick Police Station to discuss possible solutions to keep crime out of the motel. Police records show officers responded to 79 calls to the motel, resulting in 75 arrests. Recently, a prostitution scheme and meth lab were discovered and broken up by police within weeks of each other.

Avedisian said the motel chain has already taken steps to prevent future crime in its establishment.

“They fax over their daily guest register now and that allows us to look for anyone that has a warrant or anyone that has something that’s outstanding; they have increased their [police] detail the [cost] of the hotel itself.”
