PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Democratic House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello says any new program proposed in the state budget has a slim chance of being funded this year.
Mattiello told WPRO’s Gene Valicenti Wednesday that the state will have a difficult time paying current bills without adding new ones.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo is asking state lawmakers to expand Rhode Island’s free tuition program, currently offered at the Community College of Rhode Island.
Raimondo wants to expand the program to older students at CCRI and cover the last two years of a four-year degree at Rhode Island College.
