A few dozen fans gathered at TF Green Airport on Monday to watch the New England Patriots land in Rhode Island after their sixth Super Bowl win. Chuck Lanigan was one of them, and said he’s been a fan since the 70s.
Asked what makes being a fan so special, he said “Six championships and a seventh on the way.” He also had some affectionate words for MVP Julian Edelman.
“He looks just like an ewok too, unbelievable with that beard,” he said with a laugh, invoking Star Wars.
Rachel Ward traveled two and a half hours to Warwick to watch the team deplane.
“Luckily we own our own business, so we just closed for the next couple of days,” she said.
Ward was unfazed by the low-scoring game, which some found boring. She said she planned to attend other upcoming Super Bowl festivities as well.
“It’s exciting to me no matter what. I don’t care about the score, I don’t care about anything. We won, it’s exciting, and I can’t wait,” she said.
A parade is scheduled for Tuesday morning in Boston.
