House Speaker Nick Mattiello said he’ll create an office to investigate claims of sexual harassment at the State House.
Mattiello told WPRO’s Tara Granahan that it may be a waste of resources since there are so few complaints about sexual harassment, but he’s giving the go ahead toward hiring a professional investigator to look into claims of things going over the line between state lawmakers so that “everybody is as protected as they can be.”
“I don’t want this cloud hanging over the State House. What I will tell the public is that we run a very business-like, very professional environment… I’m going to create the office to take politics out of it. I don’t want complaints to have to come up to the Speaker’s office,” he said.
Many of the dissidents who abstained from the Speaker’s vote had accused him of turning a blind eye to those allegations. He said he wants those committing acts of harassment exposed.
