Rhode Island College has announced a new scholarship named for a high-profile figure.
Rising junior and senior performing arts students from under served communities can now apply for the Miranda Scholarship, named for Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and made possible by his family. The two-year scholarship already has five recipients.
According to the RIC website, the criteria for the scholarship is:
- A member of an underrepresented group, as defined by U.S. government census data.
- First-generation college student.
- Major in Music, Theatre or Dance.
- Be a full-time enrolled junior or senior.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Submit a letter of interest addressing:
- Why are you the ideal candidate for a prominent scholarship?
- What are your aspirations for a post-college career?
- Participate in a live audition and interview.
- Eligible for Federal Pell Grant.
