WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) – Sex offenders in one Massachusetts city will be getting visits at home on Halloween, but not from trick-or-treaters.
The Telegram reports that probation officers, accompanied by Worcester police, will be making sure on Wednesday that convicted sex offenders who are on probation do not have Halloween decorations up to attract children and aren’t answering the door for young trick-or-treaters.
A spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Probation Department says the 10-year-old Halloween initiative, called “Operation Lights Out,” is aimed at both protecting children and keeping tabs on sex offenders.
Similar unannounced visits by police and probation officers are expected in several other cities around the state.
