A staffer for Governor Gina Raimondo is facing sexual assault charges after being stabbed in the neck last week.
Providence Police said 54-year-old Daniel Brown is changed with second degree sexual assault and procurement of alcohol for a person under 21. Providence Police Major David Lapatin said Brown is accused of sexually assaulting the 18-year-old man who was charged with stabbing him.
Lapatin said it appears the two men had no relationship prior to the incidents. He said Brown met the man on the street, brought him back to his apartment, gave him alcohol, and touched him inappropriately, leading the man to stab him and flee the apartment.
Lapatin said it’s likely the man will claim self defense in court. He also confirmed Brown had a prior arrest in 2014 in Cranston where the case was dropped.
The Governor’s Office directed WPRO to the Department of Administration for comment. A spokesperson there said Brown “is being placed immediately on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.”
Brown was arraigned from a hospital bed and was released on $10,000 personal recognizance. The 18-year-old is also out on bail.
