Two men were charged with murder and conspiracy Wednesday in the unsolved homicide of an elderly woman who was found, stabbed multiple times more than two years ago in her Woonsocket home.
No pleas were entered for Tyler Grenon, 23 of Attleboro and Matthew Dusseault, 20 of Woonsocket to the murder of Constance Gauthier, 81, and conspiracy to commit murder. They were ordered held without bail for bail hearings August 1.
Police said Gauthier was found dead in her Fairfield Ave. home March 23, 2016, a prosecutor said she died two days earlier. The medical examiner’s office said she died of multiple stab wounds.
“At the time of the homicide, this defendant lived either next door or very close by Miss Gauthier’s home,” Assistant Attorney General Scott Erickson told Judge Joseph Houlihan about Grenon, who appeared in court in a tee-shirt, basketball shorts and sporting a beard.
“Based on investigation over the last 24 hours, this defendant was developed as either, mostly as a principal, certainly as a co-conspirator or an aider or abettor of the homicide of Miss Gauthier,” Erickson said.
Police in Woonsocket would not reveal any details about the arrests, scheduling a news conference Thursday morning to answer questions regarding the case and continuing investigation.
