Air Canada began seasonal service between Toronto and T.F. Green Airport in Warwick on Thursday, planning to operate non-stop daily flights to Toronto Pearson International Airport.
Despite a steady rainfall, a water cannon salute greeted the first flight, the first passengers from Toronto were met with a bag of goodies, a cake and snacks.
It marks a resumption of once regular service between Canada and Green Airport.
“Many, many, many, many years ago, but we’ve had a resurgence in our fleet,” said Patrick Khoury, the airline’s Senior Director of Sales – USA. “Now we have the right airplane on the right route at the right time.”
There is already a significant flow of tourism dollars to Rhode Island from Canada, said Josie Cimini, Senior Consular Officer at the Canadian Consulate General in Boston.
“Canadian travelers spend $17 million annually in Rhode Island,” Cimini said.
The seasonal service, first announced last November, is scheduled to continue through October 8, 2018.
