PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — A former Rhode Island House speaker has been transferred to a halfway house in Pawtucket after more than two years behind bars.
Former Speaker Gordon Fox arrived at the facility shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday after leaving a federal prison in Pennsylvania.
The 55-year-old Fox is currently serving a three-year sentence. The former Democratic lawmaker pleaded guilty in 2015 to corruption for taking a bribe of more than $50,000 and taking more than $100,000 from his campaign account going back to 2008.
Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien has said the move is not a release but a transfer to a less secure facility.
When asked how it felt to be out, Fox told WPRI-TV 12’s Tim White “I don’t know yet.”
