PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Campaign finance records show Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo has more than $2 million on hand before her 2018 bid for re-election.
WPRI-TV reports Raimondo’s campaign raised $565,000 and spent $166,000 between Jan. 1 and March 31. Most of the money was spent on the polling firm Expedition Strategies.
Her campaign fundraising dwarfs the state’s last two-term governor, Republican Don Carcieri, who had about $275,000 on hand at the same point in his term.
Raimondo’s potential GOP competition, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, reported $79,000 on hand.
Also up for re-election next year, U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse reported $1.77 million. His two potential Republican opponents, Rep. Bobby Nardolillo and former R.I. Supreme Court Justice Robert Flanders, registered with the Federal Election Commission but neither filed a campaign-finance report.
