Downtown Warren, Rhode Island is one of the 15 “Great Places in America,” according to a new study by the American Planning Association.
According to the APA, each year the association recognizes “outstanding people, planning work, and places — representing the best in planning and community impact.”
The APA cited Warren’s “eco-haven of downtown…ideal for bikers and foodies alike. The tiny downtown area and its highly involved community have set the green standard for active living, while local foods have set the stage for a story of urban renewal.”
The study singled out Warren’s extensive enviornmental plan, strong Native American heritage, robust arts scene and neighborhood performance art as some of the reasons why the East Bay town was chosen. Other communities chosen as 2016 “Great Places in America” are Santa Ana, California, Atlanta, Georgia, Louisville, Kentucky, and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
