Police summonsed to a home on Apulia Street in East Providence Tuesday morning by a woman who said she was being abused there, found a burning house where a man jumped out of a window to escape the flames.
Channel 12 News reports the woman went to nearby police headquarters to complain of abuse. Police and firefighters said the man, who was not immediately identified, jumped out of a second-story window, his fall broken by bushes. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Damage to the two-story home was extensive, said East Providence Fire Captain Kenneth Botelho.
“It’s a single family raised ranch, and the fire happened upstairs in one of the bedrooms,” said Botelho, the city’s fire marshal.
“There have been no arrests made at this point, we’re just investigating,” said Botelho.
