TIVERTON, R.I. (AP) — Fire officials say one firefighter was hospitalized after a two-alarm blaze broke out in a vacant mill building in Tiverton.
WJAR-TV reports that the blaze was sparked sometime around 2 a.m. Monday at a building on Mill Street across from the Bourne Mill apartment complex.
The abandoned mill had been used as a training structure for firefighters, but no fires were ever set during training.
Crews have remained at the scene to monitor hotspots throughout the structure. Fire officials consider the building unsafe and it may be demolished.
One firefighter was rushed to the hospital with an undisclosed injury. His condition is unknown.
No word on what started the fire. The blaze remains under investigation.
