A Westerly woman who served time in state prison for a 2010 crash that left a man dead is ordered held for allegedly violating terms of her probation.
Laura Reale, 33 served five years at the Adult Correctional Institutions for her conviction in the 2010 death of motorcyclist Colin Foote.
A prosecutor said that since her release on probation last year, Reale relapsed, used drugs and purchased urine in an effort to conceal her drug use.
“Most egregious,” said Judge Melanie Thunberg, who ordered Reale remanded into custody pending a hearing August 29.
“That, to me says she hasn’t been rehabilitated in any way, and I’m not sure she ever will be,” Robin Foote, Colin Foote’s father said to reporters outside the Superior Court in Wakefield.
Reale’s attorney said she was in methadone treatment.
Robin Foote and his wife, Maryann attended the court session. After their son’s death, they lobbied for passage of the “Colin B. Foote Act”, which provides enhanced penalties for habitual traffic offenders.
