PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A judge has set a trial date in the lawsuit over Rhode Island’s failed deal with Curt Schilling’s video game company.
Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein said Friday the trial is scheduled to start Sept. 1 with jury selection.
Silverstein says it could start earlier depending on how he decides summary judgment motions.
Ex-Red Sox pitcher Schilling’s 38 Studios moved to Rhode Island in 2010 in exchange for a $75 million state loan guarantee, then went bankrupt.
Rhode Island’s economic development agency sued key players in the deal, including Schilling.
The agency had asked for a May trial date.
Defendant First Southwest asked for more time to resolve outstanding issues and to avoid doing jury selection in the summer.
A trial is expected to take about eight weeks.
