A hit-and-run driver has killed a high school teacher outside the school.
School officials say Anne-Marie Dansicker of Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence died after being struck at about 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Later that evening, 19 year old Tarchae Powell Providence, Rhode Island walked into Providence Police Headquarters to report that she was driving the vehicle that fled from the scene after striking the pedestrian on Mount Pleasant Avenue.
The pedestrian was identified as a teacher at Mt. Pleasant High School – Anne-Marie Dansicker, age 53 of Warwick. Ms. Dansicker was transported by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Earlier today, Providence Public Schools Superintendent Christopher N. Maher issued the following statement addressing the tragic loss. “This morning we received the tragic news that Anne-Marie Dansicker, a teacher at Mt. Pleasant High School, succumbed to injuries sustained when she was struck by a motor vehicle while leaving work yesterday evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with Anne-Marie’s loved ones and countless members of the Providence school community whose lives she touched during her years of service. The School Department has counselors at Mt. Pleasant High School and is committed to offering students, teachers and staff support in this difficult time.
