EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A federal appeals court has upheld a ruling that bars an East Providence pet store from selling dogs or cats.
The city passed an ordinance in June 2014 after people testified about problems with the health and origins of animals sold at pet stores.
Representatives from the Perfect Puppy filed a complaint claiming the ordinance was unconstitutional, and it was the only pet store in the city that sold puppies.
The store appealed but a city attorney tells WJAR-TV that ruling was upheld on Wednesday.
The owner of the store says he is disappointed in the ruling.
Mayor Thomas Rose says the city is “more than satisfied” that the ordinance was correctly enacted.
