An East Greenwich man has been sentenced to 65 months in federal prison for filing false tax returns that wrongly sought millions in tax refunds from the U.S. government.
Fifty-three-year-old Anthony DelFarno pleaded guilty earlier this year to using personal information from family members and others to file fraudulent returns seeking more than $3.5 million in refunds. Prosecutors said he filed dozens of false individual and corporate tax returns and collected more than $1.4 million from the scheme.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Court Judge John McConnell, Jr. sentenced DelFarno to 65 months behind bars along with three years of supervised release after he completes his prison sentence.
DelFarno was also ordered to pay $1.4 million in restitution to the government.
