The Rhode Island State Police announced they had arrested two men in West Greenwich for possessing over 1,500 oxycodone pills.
The arresting officer pulled over a northbound vehicle on I-95 on Tuesday for speeding and questioned the driver, 39-year-old Edgar Alicea-DeJesus of New York, and passenger Abdiel Pinto, 31, of Connecticut.
After hearing conflicting stories, the officer conducted a background check of Alicea-DeJesus and found a history of prior arrests over narcotics. The officer also observed the car was rented, but that after-market window tint had been installed.
After receiving consent to search the vehicle, the officer found an air-compressor tank in the back seat of the car that had a trap door cut into the tank.
A canine unit arrived on scene, and the dog reacted positively to the scent of narcotics.
The vehicle was towed and searched revealing 1,585 oxycodone pills.
Both men were arrested and held overnight pending a hearing.
