The Providence firefighters union is planning on hosting several town meetings over the next several weeks to elaborate their position of the platoon changes implemented by Mayor Jorge Elorza.
Local 799 President Paul Doughty says the meeting will be held in different neighborhoods throughout the city and will lay out their “current battle with the mayor – our legal position, the mayors [sic] failures, and the certain financial ruin the city faces if he loses.”
In a statement, Doughty writes that the meetings will also show what kind of impact a legal settlement would have on the city in terms of services and quality of life.
A superior court judge ruled recently that the city of Providence and firefighters could move their case to arbitration to help resolve the situation.
