CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) – Bail was set at $50,000 for a Coventry man accused of lunging at police officers with a knife while being interviewed about a stabbing.
Forty-eight-year-old Richard Morrissey was not released following his hearing Thursday in Warwick District Court. He faces two counts of felony assault.
Detectives went to a Cranston apartment complex Wednesday morning to investigate a stabbing that had happened the previous night in Providence.
Police say while detectives were talking with Morrissey he pulled a 10-inch kitchen knife from the couch cushion he was sitting on.
A struggle ensued and Providence Detective Casey Moffett grabbed the knife, cutting his hand. It’s unclear whether Morrissey is represented by an attorney.
Police say Moffett’s injuries may require stitches.
