A RIPTA bus driver is suspended with pay after reportedly refusing to move his bus despite multiple requests from Providence Police to do so.
WPRI reports 44-year-old Jean Lamour was taken into custody after failing to comply with police orders.
Officials from the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority are calling the driver’s behavior “absolutely unacceptable,” after the driver allegedly disobeyed police orders to move the vehicle from the intersection of Memorial Boulevard and Washington Street in Providence as police responded to an accident on Saturday.
“It is clearly understood that any and all RIPTA employees are to follow the direction of law enforcement officials,” said Barbara Polichetti, Director of Public Affairs for RIPTA in a statement, adding, “This behavior will not be tolerated.”
Polichetti said RIPTA is conducting their own internal review, but based on information from police, the driver repeatedly refused instructions to move the bus. The bus was eventually moved by a superior.
