President Donald Trump said in Washington that he expects to decide within 10 to 15 days whether the United States will carry out new military action against Iran, tying the timeline to progress in nuclear talks.
Speaking during the inaugural Board of Peace meeting, Trump said negotiations were continuing but warned the US would require a meaningful agreement on Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
The comments come as the US has moved additional military assets into the region in recent weeks, including aircraft carriers and other warships. American media have reported strike planning that could allow action sooner, though officials have said no final decision has been made.
Diplomacy has continued in parallel. US representatives have held indirect discussions with Iran, with the most recent round brokered by Omani mediators in Geneva. Iran’s foreign minister said the sides reached a general understanding on some guiding principles.
Iran has said its nuclear program is peaceful, even as it has enriched uranium beyond levels typically used for energy production. Iranian leaders have also warned of wider regional consequences if attacked.
