PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island lawmakers passed a flurry of major bills before the legislative session ended Friday, including the state budget and legislation to provide driver privilege cards to people who are in the country illegally.

The General Assembly adjourned early Friday after the state Senate passed the $13.6 billion budget that previously passed the House. It now goes to the governor.

The spending plan accelerates phasing out the car tax, provides a one-time child tax credit and directs how to spend federal pandemic relief funding.

The General Assembly is also sending the governor legislation for driver privilege cards, and he’s expected to sign it.
