Rhode Island says it will close state and municipal – run vaccination sites by the end of the month in favor of community – based sites.

About 100 COVID-19 vaccination clinics will remain, in settings including schools, churches and senior centers, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.

The last day of vaccinating at the Sockanosset Cross Road site will be December 18th, and the last day for regular operations at the East Providence Senior Center vaccination site will be December 29th.

In a statement, the Department of Health said the move will be made in response to what it calls the public request for COVID-19 vaccination sites that are closer to home, and are in addition to vaccination opportunities in pharmacies and with many primary care providers.

A list of community clinics is posted at covid.ri.gov/vaccination
