Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Jason Isbell and Allison Russell’s Once & Future Sounds are the scheduled headliners for the first three days of the Newport Folk Festival, July 23, 24 and 25, the first official listing of artists at the venerable music showcase since tickets sold out within minutes after going on sale in May.

The coronavirus pandemic forced cancellation of the festival in 2020 and while some of the artists announced last year were rebooked this year, some new names were added to the schedule.

Traditionally spread over three days, this year’s edition has been stretched to six days, with reduced crowds and just two main stages in a nod to COVID health concerns.

Lineups for days four through six, July 26 -28 have not been announced, but some artists have already stated that they will perform, including Beck, Deer Tick, Sharon Van Etten, The Head and The Heart, Julien Baker, Middle Brother, Chris Thiele, Courtney Marie Andrews and Hiss Golden Messenger.

Festival organizers said they also plan pop-up performances, workshops and open mic sessions.

Other artists on the schedule include Randy Newman, Margo Price, Grace Potter, Lucy Dacus, Natalie Hemby, Caamp, Yola and Billy Strings.
