A suspended Pawtucket police officer appeared in court Friday, answering to charges that he shot at three teens, wounding one of them, in a confrontation last month in West Greenwich.

It took just moments for officer Daniel Dolan, 38 to plead not guilty to three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence.

It took longer for him to sign paperwork, including a no-contact order for the three teens authorities said that he shot or fired at last month in the parking lot of a West Greenwich pizza shop.

Sitting in court were Dominic Vincent, 18 with his arm in a sling from a gunshot wound, and brothers Vincent Greco and Joseph Greco.

According to a State Police affidavit, Dolan told officers he was off-duty at the time of the incident, the three teens were in a car that passed him at a high rate of speed. He said he stopped the car because he thought it had been involved in a crime, and he wanted to speak with the operator to prevent him from “possibly injuring somebody”.

The arraignment in Kent County Superior Court in Warwick occurred before the scheduled 9:30 A.M. start of the court day. Outside the court, his attorney protested his innocence.

“Officer Dolan has spent the better part of the last 17 years serving and protecting as a United States Marine and as a police officer for the City of Pawtucket,” said Michael Colucci. “And that’s exactly what he was doing that evening.”

“I’m doing well, sir, how are you doing,” said Dolan, in response to a reporter’s question.

“We’re confident the Attorney General’s office will bring this sad, said affair to justice,” said James Howe, attorney for the three teens, who remained silent both inside and outside the court.

Dolan was released on $25,000 personal recognizance bail, ordered to surrender any firearms, to report to the State Police for processing and to return to court for a pretrial conference September 9.
