PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Former Republican state Rep. Robert Lancia announced Monday that he intends to run for Congress again in 2022.

Lancia, who lost to incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Langevin last November, made the announcement on WPRO radio.

“The border is a mess, our budget is out of control, and our national deficit — we now have hit $30 trillion,” he said as reasons for his run on the station.

Lancia, a former elementary school teacher and U.S. Navy chaplain, ran for the U.S. House after losing reelection to the Rhode Island House of Representatives in 2018.

Langevin was first elected in 2000. He got about 58% of the vote last year, to Lancia’s roughly 42%.
