CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — The Champlin Foundation is awarding $18 million in grants to Rhode Island nonprofits, including a theater, community organizations and mental health providers.

The Cranston-based foundation announced the grants on Tuesday. They will go to 188 different organizations in the state.

Among the grant recipients is CODAC Behavioral Healthcare, which won $225,000 for a mobile medical unit.

The foundation’s executive director Nina Stack said in a statement that the state’s charities have stepped up to continue to deliver their services during the public health and economic crises.

The Champlin Foundation was created in 1932.
