PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Eight men have been indicted in connection with the sexual assault of an unconscious 16-year-old girl in Rhode Island last December, state Attorney General Peter Neronha said Tuesday.

The indictment alleges that sometime between Dec. 18 and Dec. 20, 2019, several defendants sexually assaulted the unconscious victim at a home in Providence, and videotaped portions of it. None of the assailants or bystanders reported the sexual assault to police.

The defendants, who range from 19 to 25 years of age and hail mostly from Providence, face charges including first degree sexual assault, possession of child pornography, failure to report a sexual assault, among other crimes.

Neronha said in a statement the allegations are “particularly heinous” and demonstrate “utter disregard for the young victim.”

The Providence County Grand Jury returned the indictment, which includes 13 counts, on Nov. 6. The defendants are scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on Nov. 25.
