PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police in Rhode Island have charged seven people with participating in the rape of a 16-year-old girl that was recorded and posted on social media, and are looking for an eighth suspect.
Providence police chief Col. Hugh Clements at a news conference Wednesday called the allegations horrifying.
He says the girl was lured to a Providence home on the night of Dec. 20, and plied with alcohol and marijuana before she was assaulted.
He said a video of the attack was later posted on Facebook.
The suspects are all between 19 and 25 years old. They are charged with assault with intent to commit sexual assault and conspiracy.
