EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (AP) — East Greenwich is working on a plan to boost business on Main Street by closing the street to traffic on Sundays this fall.

WJAR-TV reports that under the plan still being developed by the town and the local Chamber of Commerce, the street would become a pedestrian mall from noon until dusk on Sundays starting on Labor Day weekend.

Manny Tampella, manager of La Masseria restaurant, says the plan will let the business put tables in the streets and serve 10 to 15 more people.

Iris Gesualdi, owner of clothing store Bags by Iris, says she will be able to wheel clothing racks onto the street.
