PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A 14-year-old girl is now facing a murder charge in connection with the shooting death earlier this month of a contractor outside a Providence home.
Police said Monday the teen, whose name was not made public because of her age, is scheduled to be arraigned in Family Court in connection with the July 1 killing of Jorge Gonzalez Colon.
The 37-year-old Gonzalez Colon was shot multiple times outside a Providence home he was working on in the city’s Silver Lake neighborhood.
Police do not think he was the intended target.
“It’s sad, it’s a terrible thing, especially a 14-year old being involved in something like this,” said Major David Lapatin, Detective Commander of the Providence Police.
“This is not a good situation in any way. But, a murder had been committed, we owe it to the family, and we owe it to this person to find out who did it and to prosecute them no matter what age,” Lapatin said.
Felix Hernandez-Rosado is also charged with murder and conspiracy in the killing.
