NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island transportation officials are warning the public of lane changes and road closures as part of a bridge replacement project in North Smithfield.

The state Department of Transportation starting on Friday, July 10, will install a lane split on Route 146 North and close Route 104 on weekends as part of a $14 million project to replace the structurally deficient Farnum Pike Bridge.

The new lane split also requires the temporary closure of Exit 11 on Route 146 until November.

The bridge was built in 1958 and carries approximately 40,000 vehicles per day.

It has been rated structurally deficient for more than 20 years.
