PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo has fully activated the state National Guard to respond to the coronavirus pandemic.
She says the Friday order means about 1,000 troops will be available to staff call centers, deliver food, or operate drive-by testing centers.
The Democrat also says the state’s April income tax filing deadline will be pushed back to July 15 to align with the new extended federal deadline.
The state Attorney General’s office is also warning about a new scam trying to cash in on the pandemic.
And health officials say the state now has more than 50 cases of the virus, up 10 from Thursday.
