PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A 51-year-old man pulling a cart full of groceries across a Providence street has been struck and killed by a vehicle.
Police say Timothy McGann was struck at about 8 p.m. Tuesday near the apartment complex where he lives.
Responding officers found McGann lying in the street with a head wound being tended to by a passer-by.
There is a grocery store in the vicinity.
McGann was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver stopped at the scene. He told police he saw the shopping cart in the street and veered to avoid it, and struck McGann instead.
