WARWICK, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island woman whose 7-month-old baby girl died after the baby’s father passed out on her while high on drugs pleaded no contest on Friday to involuntary manslaughter.

Mariah Ramos was set to go to trial next week for her role in the baby’s death in 2017.

Her attorney said prosecutors agreed to reduce the charge from second-degree murder to involuntary manslaughter in exchange for her plea.

Authorities said Ramos left the baby home alone with the baby’s visibly intoxicated father, who had taken a cocktail of drugs including heroin and fentanyl.

When the mother returned, she found the father asleep on the baby.
