A loaded handgun was found in a woman’s handbag at an airport security checkpoint in Warwick Thursday, leading to the arrest of a woman on a criminal charge.

The Transportation Security Administration did not identify the woman, other than to say she was from Florida, and was questioned by TSA officers before being arrested on weapons charges.

It was the first gun seized at T.F. Green International Airport in 2020, TSA officials said, after three guns were seized in 2019 and four in 2018.

Nationwide, 4,239 firearms were found in carry-on bags at checkpoints around the country, according to the TSA, which, in addition to pressing criminal charges, can assess civil penalties.
