PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Officials say a Rhode Island State Police lieutenant who is under internal investigation for a business he co-owns has applied for retirement.
The Providence Journal reported Tuesday that Lt. Jay Gibbs’ retirement will be effective Saturday.
According to documents obtained by the Journal, Gibbs was involved in a state bid related to the scale industry.
Gibbs, who is publicly listed as a co-owner of Ocean State Scale & Balance, communicated with other scale companies about a state bid.
He received documents from one company and sent them to another.
Gibbs did not respond to the Journal’s requests for comment.
