PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A state lawmaker is calling for the governor to review the team that oversees Rhode Island’s main airport after Norwegian Air announced it’s ending trans-Atlantic service there.

Samuel Bell, a Providence Democrat, said Tuesday Norwegian Air leaving T.F. Green Airport after only two years raises questions about choices made by the Rhode Island Airport Corporation management.

Bell says he’s concerned about other route cuts too, and the corporation’s attempts to raise revenue through high fees on ride-sharing companies.

Norwegian Air said last week it’s ending service between Ireland and three U.S. and Canadian airports because the grounding of Boeing 737 Max aircraft makes the routes “no longer commercially viable.”

Along with T.F. Green in Warwick, Rhode Island, the routes were discontinued at Stewart Airport in New York and in Hamilton, Ontario.
