LISTEN TO BILL HABERMAN’S REPORT:
Listen to “Speaker Mattiello says ad urging evergreen veto is ‘dishonest,’ ‘inappropriate’” on Spreaker.
“Things like that concern me,” the Speaker told WPRO’s Tara Granahan. He called the the ad, purchased by the Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns, dishonest and inappropriate. He takes issue with the League’s claims that a mandated 42 hour work week for firefighters would cost the Cities and Towns millions.
“For 36 of 39 communities this will not cost ten cents of overtime,” the Speaker told WPRO.
The League of Cities and Towns is currently airing a 2nd commercial opposing the firefighter overtime bill, along with legislation that would extend government contracts indefinitely, the so-called Evergreen bill. The current ad asks Governor Raimondo veto the bills calling them a legislative bait and switch.
