(Providence) The long running debate over what would be the tallest building ever built in Rhode island has taken another turn.
The Downtown Design Review Committee is recommending the 195 Commission reject the plans of New York developer Jason Fane to build a 46 story high rise on the former highway land in Providence.
WJAR-TV reports the DDRC said the tower’s height would be “detrimental” to the public space.
The 300 million dollar high rise has been the subject of intense debate since its proposal several years ago. The City Council approved the project last year overriding the veto of Mayor Jorge Elorza.
