PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A top Democrat says he will introduce a bill to allow mobile wagering for sports betting in Rhode Island.
A casino in Rhode Island became the first in New England to accept bets on professional sports Monday. Bets must be placed in person.
Democratic Senate President Dominick Ruggerio said Tuesday he’s working on legislation to allow people to place bets from anywhere in Rhode Island.
Ruggerio says he’ll introduce it when the legislative session begins in January. Ruggerio is the biggest advocate for legalized sports betting in the legislature, having lobbied for its legalization for decades.
Ruggerio says mobile gambling would be convenient and generate more revenue for the state.
He says bets could be placed through the Twin River Casino by anyone who created an account and verified their age.
