PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island Ethics Commission is placing financial disclosure forms for appointed and elected officials online for easy access.
The Ethics Commission agreed on Tuesday to a plan from Executive Director Jason Gramitt to proceed with the digitization initiative. The Providence Journal reports this would encompass more than 4,000 officials and candidates.
The move came after the House of Representatives passed legislation this year requiring the commission to place these statements on its website. The measure failed in the Senate.
Gramitt says making things public in this day and age means putting things online, and “I don’t believe we have to wait for the General Assembly to tell us to do it.”
The move was backed by the state ethics board and other commission members.
