A former State Representative from Providence is battling criminal charges, as he campaigns to win back his old seat in the Rhode Island House.
Ex-rep. John Carnevale did not appear Thursday for a pretrial conference in his criminal case in Superior Court in Providence Providence, as his lawyer and an attorney for the state met in a judge’s chamber to discuss a potential plea deal.
He is charged with three counts of perjury and one count of filing a false document in connection to his battle with the Providence Board of Canvassers, which found in 2016 that he did not live in the Barbara Street home where he claimed residency.
He was found ineligible to run for reelection in the 2016 race, but has taken out papers to run for his old seat in this year’s election.
Carnevale’s case was continued to July 13 for another hearing.
