PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island city had to delay the start of school after the batteries were stolen from several school buses.
WPRI-TV reports that 11 East Providence buses wouldn’t start Wednesday. Police think that 33 batteries were stolen.
The start of the school day was delayed by two hours. Other buses were brought in to bring children to school.
The back gate of the bus yard was left open overnight, allowing access to the buses. The batteries are accessible from outside the bus.
The batteries cost about $170 each when purchased new and can be resold for $15 to $20.
