Speaker of the House Nicholas Mattiello told WPRO’s Gene Valicenti Thursday morning that he has no intentions of returning the General Assembly to session. “Are you bringing the legislature back?,” asked Valicenti. “No,” Mattiello replied simply.
“At this point I have no plans until the first Tuesday in 2018, that may change, but I’m not considering coming in until the Senate passes the bill that the Senate Finance Committee approved for passage.”
House and Senate leaders each want the other chamber to pass their version of the $9.2 billion state budget. Both chambers adjourned Friday.
The Senate amended the budget to block further increases in reimbursement to towns for lost car-tax revenue if state revenue drops.
Governor Gina Raimondo said Wednesday it’s the legislature’s responsibility to pass a balanced budget and lives shouldn’t be disrupted because “politicians can’t do their job.”
Speaker Mattiello will also join Dan Yorke this afternoon at 3pm for an extended in-studio interview.
